CBD: What is it?

Cabnnabidoil or better known as CBD is just one of the molecules produced by Cannabis. Although it only stand second to THC in terms of abundance, CBD outweigh it because it is non-psychoactive and at the same time offers wide range of potential medical uses.

CBD belongs to one of over 60 compounds found in cannabis that reside to a class of ingredients called cannabinoids. It is the primary non-psychoactive composition of Cannavis sativa. Based on the results of some researches made, CBD is different from the other most studied cannabinoids.

Of all the compounds found in cannabis, CBD and THC are considered to be the one to have the most numbers of concentrations, so they are the most recognized and studied. CBD having the least effect on CB1 and CB2 is the biggest difference of CBD to THC, wherein the latter causes “being high” side effects. CB1 receptors are highly concentrated and is the main accountable for the mind altering effects of THC. While most of the cannabinoids, serve as ligalands, CBD doesn’t regulate the CBI receptors, which is believed to be the reason why it doesn’t have mind altering effects.

Based on a study that was published in British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, the use of CBD includes anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antipsychotic agent and can be potentially use in treating some psychological disorders. There are more proven benefits of CBD that can be effective when used properly.
